Feather

Strangers always give one funny looks when you crawl around looking for the best angle or shot for a photograph, but those who know you knows that they just have to deal with it. On a work outing the other day I picked up a guinea fowl feather and as we passed a fountain I dropped it in and started taking photos of it. My colleagues just kept on walking, shaking their heads and mumbling something about me and my camera always taking photos.

Weather vanes

Today I am combining my Skywatch post with a Random theme... post. The random theme for today is weather vanes. There is a folk song in Afrikaans about the chicken that can't lay an egg and that chicken is the one that stands on top of the church spire.

I imagine the cow that doesn't give milk will also be found on top of a spire. This one wasn't a church though. It stands on top of a gazebo at Fancourt Golf Estate in George on the Garden Route

The dragon of St George sits on top of one of the pavilions at the St Georges Park cricket ground in Port Elizabeth. St Georges is the oldest test stadium in South Africa.

Victorian Post box

There are a couple of old and historic post boxes around the country that is still in use. I found this old post box dating from the Victorian era just outside the Somerset East Museum in the Eastern Cape town with the same name.

Ok, so I have a thing for barbed wire fences. Here is one I took at the hop farm between George and Oudtshoorn in the Outeniqua Mountains.

Barbed wire

For so long now I've been wanting to take a picture like this, but I haven't really had a chance yet. Mainly due to the lack of barbed wire in the suburbs. Electric fences, yes... Razor wire, sometimes... but not a lot of barbed wire around. So on the weekend I got the opportunity just outside town. The barb is lined up about two centimeters from the lens and the camera is set on super macro. Cars going past must have thought me lacking a couple of barbs on my wire, but I was hiding behind my camera so that makes it ok.
