Barb wire at sunset

Barb wire at sunset.  Its hard to believe that I took this pic in Noordhoek, Cape Town, a year ago during our Summer holiday and right now we are on our way (or already there depending on when you read this) for this year's vacation.  The Klein Karoo with Montagu and Oudtshoorn awaits.

Barb wire silhouette sunset

Spending 10 days in Noordhoek on the Cape Peninsula one would have thought that I got a couple of nice sunset pics around the area.  But alas I didn't.  Don't ask me why.  One of the afternoons I did go out I headed onto the first part of Chapmans Peak Drive from the Noordhoek side to get a nice sunset with the Noordhoek beach in the foreground.  My position turned out to be wrong and the sun didn't even go down anywhere close to the beach.  I didn't get to expand my barb wire picture collection at sunset though.

Contrasting barb wire backgrounds

There is very little that I can walk past without having to take a photograph of it.  Barb wire is one of the things that always seem to hook me and force me to take a photo.  Perhaps its not always the barb wire itself, but the background.  Here are two from our January trip.

Free State barb wire

The N1 through the Free State runs through a very flat and uneventful part of the country and although there wasn't really a feature to put in the background, I couldn't resist getting a barb wire shot at one of our stops.

Hopped barb wire

Ok, so I have a thing for barbed wire fences. Here is one I took at the hop farm between George and Oudtshoorn in the Outeniqua Mountains.

Rusty barbed wire

There is something about photographing barb wire... Above is my second attempt. Here you will see my first.

Barbed wire

For so long now I've been wanting to take a picture like this, but I haven't really had a chance yet. Mainly due to the lack of barbed wire in the suburbs. Electric fences, yes... Razor wire, sometimes... but not a lot of barbed wire around. So on the weekend I got the opportunity just outside town. The barb is lined up about two centimeters from the lens and the camera is set on super macro. Cars going past must have thought me lacking a couple of barbs on my wire, but I was hiding behind my camera so that makes it ok.
